TEAM NORELCO TAKES THE FIRST BUD LIGHT PRO BEACH VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
TEAM OUTDOOR PRODUCTS TAKES MEN'S TITLE

Clearwater, Fla., (May 26, 1996) -- Team Norelco won the first tournament of the Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League's 1996 season by defeating Discus Athletic 15-10 in the final.

Led by former UCLA All-American Mirassa Hatchett (Fullerton, Calif.) with 6 kills, Norelco's well balanced offensive attack was too much for Discus Athletic who was led by 1995 Suprise Player of the Year Alyson Randick (Lafayette, Calif./UCLA) with 7 kills.

Discus Athletic advanced to the final match by beating NIKE 15-10 in the morning's semi-final. Norelco will collect a $10,900 pay check while Discus Athletic picks up $9,100 for finishing second.

Team Outdoor Products took the men's title and collected a $10,000 paycheck by defeating Team OP 15-6. Captain, Dan Hanan (Huntington Beach/Stanford) led all player with 12 kills. Team OP collected $8,400 for finishing second.

The men's tournament concluded their round robin play with Team Mitchell upsetting Team OP 15-12. Paul Mitchell finished 3rd on the weekend and collected $6,400. Team Outdoor defeated Sony Autosound 15-6 to advance to the finals against OP who qualified yesterday on the points for versus points against ratio.

The Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League action will continue Friday, May 31 in New York's Central Park.

Former national volleyball team member and captain of Team Norelco, Samantha Shaver (Los Altos, Calif./UCLA) recorded 18 kills in two games as fellow UCLA Bruin alumni and Norelco teammate Marissa Hatchett (Los Angeles, Calif./UCLA) posted 17 blocks (one shy of her own tournament record 18). Second year player, Alyson Randick of Team Discus Athletic (Lafayett, Calif/UCLA) led all players with 23 kills in two games.

Gabrielle Reece (La Jolla, Calif./Florida State) led all players with 23 kills in two games. Marissa Hatchett (Fullerton, Calif./UCLA) broke a league tournament mark by recording 2 blocks on the day giving her a record 20 blocks in one tournament breaking her tournament high of 18 set in Pittsburgh, Penn. July 16-17, 1994.

Rookie LeLand Quinn (Santa Monica, Calif./UC Irvine) led Sony Autosound in their victory over Paul Mitchell with 31 kills in two games as Sony went 1-1 on the day.
