SEASIDE, OR (Aug. 11, 1996) -- Team Paul Mitchell won their third consecutive women's championship on the Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League tour by beating Team Discus Athletic 15-14 in sudden death overtime. The match was tied at 14 when time expired on the 9 minute rally clock.

Discus Athletic advanced to the championship match behind Katy Eldridge's (Playa Del Rey, Calif./Univ. of Pacific) 10 kills, 1 block and 3 service ace performance downing Team Sony Autosound 15-13 in the morning's semi-final match. This was Discus Athletic's fourth straight second place finish on the season and third consecutive time these teams have met in the final.

In the men's tournament, Paul Mitchell defeated Outdoor Products 12-4. Craig Buck (Tarzana, Calif./Pepperdine) led with 15 kills and 3 blocks. The win is Paul Mitchell's third championship title in the 1996 season. Dan Hanan (San Diego, Calif./Stanford) led Outdoor Products with 8 kills and 1 block.

Outdoor Products advanced to the final by defeating Sony Autosound 12-9 in the semi-final match. Manhattan Beach champions, Team Sony Autosound finished in last place this weekend for the sixth time this season. Paul Mitchell advanced by beating Team OP 12-10 in the second semi-final match. This is only the second time all season OP has not made a final match appearance.

The Bud Light Volleyball League will continue in Hermosa Beach, Calif. Friday Aug 16- Sunday, Aug. 18. The remaining tour stops after Hermosa Beach are: San Diego, Calif. (Aug 23-25) and Santa Cruz, Calif. (Aug. 30 - Sept. 1).
