HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. (August 18, 1996) -- Huntington Beach native and team captain Dan Hanan (Stanford) led Team Outdoor Products to their season's first championship in the 1996 Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League with a 13-10 clock shortened victory over Team Sony Autosound, who made their third finals appearance of the year.
Paul Mitchell (2-2) finished in third place after losing to Sony Autosound in the semi-finals 15-4. Team Ocean Pacific ended play with a 1-3 fourth place mark, which will deal a blow to their chances of winning the overall league championship.
In the women's tournament, Team Paul Mitchell defeated Team Norelco 15-10 to earn their fourth straight tournament title. Former All-SEC selection Diane Shoemaker (Brooklyn, Mich./Univ. of Tennessee) led the attack for Paul Mitchell with 8 kills and 2 blocks. Wendy Stammer (Portland, Ore./Louisiana State) pcae Norelco with 7 kills.
1995 League champion Team Sony Autosound finished in third place after losing to Norelco in the semi-finals 15-9. Team Discus Athletic posted a suprising fourth place finish and failed to make the finals for the first time in 5 tournaments. Gabrielle Reece (La Jolla, Calif./Florida State) and team NIKE finished in fifth place.
The Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League will continue next weekend in San Diego, Calif. as the men and women will begin round robin pool play on Friday, August 23rd.

Womens - Team Paul Mitchell (3-1) earned an automatic berth into the women's finals and will face the winner of tommorrow's semi-final match between Sony Autosound (3-1) and Norelco (2-2)
Mens - Team Outdoor Products (3-0) will advance to the finals to await the winner of the Paul Mitchell (2-1) and OP (2-1) semi-final match.
action will resume tommorrow with the women's semi-final match beginning at 9 am, followed by the men's semi-finals at 10 am. The men's final is scheduled for 1 pm, with the women's final to follow at 3 pm. Both will be taped for broadcast on ESPN.
