BUD LIGHT PRO BEACH VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE
CHANGES DRAFT FORMAT

VAN NUYS, Calif. (Feb. 26, 1997) -- The women's league of the Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League (WBVL) has changed the drafting format for the 1997 season. Women's teams for the 1997 season will be selected by a combination of team captains and League officials.

The draft change was made to accomodate a reduction of teams - from five teams in 1996 to four teams in 1997 - and the return of top players from the 1996 Olympic team to the league.

"This change will maintain a competitive league balance with the return of 1996 Olympic players like Tammy Liley and Kristen Klein, as well as create more opportunities for our team sponsors to build equity in their players and teams," said Craig Elledge, League Commissioner and President of CE Sports, Inc. "While team selection has changed this season, League operations will remain the same".

As in the League's previous seasons, team captains from WBVL have the option to trade, waive and cut players, and replace them with players from the player pool throughout the year. The Bud Light Pro Beach Volleyball League is the country's only professional beach volleyball league. The League will visit thirteen cities this summer creating two-day events.

Women's captains for the 1997 season will include: Team NIKE, Gabrielle Reece (La Jolla, Calif./Florida State); Team Paul Mitchell, Annett Davis (Carson, Calif./UCLA); Team Norelco, Samantha Shaver (Los Altos, Calif./UCLA) and Team Discus Athletic, Kim Oden (Irvine, Calif/Stanford).

The women's team rosters will be announced at a later date.
