DALLAS (May 11, 1997) -- The No. 1 seeded team of Mike Dodd and Mike Whitmarsh won their second tournament of the season on the Miller Lite/AVP Tour as they defeated the No. 6 seeded pair of Randy Stoklos and Troy Tanner, 11-6, 11-13, 7-5 to win the $100,000 AVP Dallas Open.

Dodd and Whitmarsh, silver medalists at the 1996 Summer Olympics, advanced to their second tournament final of the season after defeating Bill Boullianne and Brian Lewis, 11-4, 11-6 in the semifinals.

Stoklos and Tanner made their first tournament final appearance of the season together after a 11-6, 11-1 decision over Eric Fonoimoana and Bryan Ivie.

Previously, Dodd won the 1988 Dallas stop on the Miller Lite/AVP Tour with Tim Hovland, while Tanner appeared in the final match of the 1994 Nestea Open at Dallas before losing to Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes. Stoklos has also been victorious in Dallas after winning the 1989 event with long-time partner Sinjin Smith.

The No. 1 ranked tandem of Olympic gold medalist Kent Steffes and his partner Jose Loiola finished fifth after falling to Fonoimoana and Ivie by a score of 4-11, 11-9, 6-3 in the quarterfinal round.

The Miller Lite/AVP Tour continues its "Tour Texas" May 17-18 as it resumes at the $100,000 AVP South Texas Open in Corpus Christi. For ticket information contact Tele-charge at (800) 432-7470.
