RESULTS

Corpus Christi, TX (May 31, 1998) -- Kent Steffes and his new partner, Brazilian Emanuel Rego, defeated Kevin Wong and Albert Hannemann 15-7 to win the $50,000 Miller Lite South Texas Open at Corpus Christi. This tournament marked the first time that Steffes has paired with Rego. Steffes made the move after his regular Miller Lite/AVP Tour partner and co-number one ranked player Jose Loiola withdrew from the tournament due to tendinitis in his right knee. Steffes has now won six tournaments on the 1998 Miller Lite/AVP Tour and Rego has won two.

Steffes and Rego split $10,000 as the winners of the $50,000 Miller Lite South Texas Open. They defeated Bill Boullianne and Andre Gomes 11-7, 11-3 to advance to the final match. Rego had won the 1998 Miller Lite Open at San Antonio with Gomes before pairing with Steffes this weekend.

Wong and Hannemann advanced to their first ever Miller Lite/AVP Tour final by defeating the team of Rob Heidger and Troy Tanner 9-7, 10-7. Wong, in his second Miller Lite/AVP Tour season, and Hannemann split the $5,700 second place prize money for their efforts. This marks only the fifth tournament that Wong and Hannemann have entered together.
