STEFFES AND LOIOLA REACH DOUBLE DIGIT WIN MARK WITH 10TH VICTORY AT $135,000 MILLER LITE/AVP MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIPS

GRAND HAVEN, Mich (July 13, 1997) -- For the tenth time this season, N0. 1 seeds Jose Loiola and Kent Steffes have proven to be the best on the beach as they defeated the No. 3 seeded team of Randy Stoklos and Brian Lewis 15-8 in front of a near sold-out crowd at the $135,000 Miller Lite/AVP Midwest Championships.

Stokloa and his partner Lewis who teamed with Scott Ayakatubby to win the AVP West Michigan Open in 1996, advanced to the finals after defeating No. 2 seeds Troy Tanner and Mike Whitmarsh 15-7 in the contender's bracket final match. For Lewis and Stoklos, this weekend marked their first tournament together since pairing for nine tournaments in the 1993 season.

Tanner and Whitmarsh recorded a third-place finish while playing in their first tournament together after they defeated No. 7 seeds Ian Clark and Canyon Ceman 15-10. No. 5 seeds Karch Kiraly and Adam Johnson took home a fifth-place finish after falling 15-10 to Tanner and Whitmarsh. No. 10 seeds Dax Holdren and Todd Rogers, matched a career high with their second fifth place of the season.

The Miller Lite/AVP Tour resumes July 19-20 as it returns to Milwaukee, the home of tour sponsor Miller Brewing Company, for the $125,000 Miller Lite Open of Milwaukee.
