BRADFORD BEACH, MILWAUKEE (July 21, 1996) -- Adam Johnson and Jose Loiola posted their third consecutive tournament victory and fifth of the season, as they defeated Rob Heidger and Troy Tanner, 15-11, at the Miller Lite/AVP Open in Milwaukee.

AYAKATUBBY/LEWIS TO REACH SEMI-FINALS
AT $125,000 MILLER LITE OPEN AT MILWAUKEE

MILWAUKEE (July 20, 1996) -- The seventh-seeded team of Brent Frohoff and Ricci Luyties pulled off a 15-7 upset Saturday over the No. 2 seeded team of Scott Ayakatubby and Brian Lewis as they reached the winner's bracket semi-finals for the first time this season before nearly 4,000 fans at the $125,000 Miller Lite Open in Milwaukee.

Looking to repeat their championship performance of 1994, the tandem of Frohoff and Luyties will join No. 1-seeds Adam Johnson/Jose Loiola, No. 3-seeds Bill Boulianne/Eric Fonoimoana and No. 5-seeds Rob Heidger/ Troy Tanner in Sunday's winner's bracket semi-finals scheduled for a 9:30 AM start.

Randy Stoklos and Eduardo Bacil, the No. 4 seeds, rebounded from yesterday's upset loss to No. 29 seeds Tod Ahmadhi/Stace Lougeay with three contender's bracket victories, assuring themselves no less than a seventh-place finish. Stoklos last won the Miller Lite Open in Milwaukee in 1994 with long-time partner Sinjin Smith.

U.S. Beach Volleyball team members Karch Kiraly, Kent Steffes, Mike Dodd and Mike Whitmarsh, who compete on the Miller Lite/AVP Tour, skipped the Milwaukee stop for Opening Ceremonies of the Summer Games in Atlanta.

The action at Milwaukee's Bradford Beach will resume Sunday at 9:30 AM with the championship match scheduled for 3 PM CST.

The nineteenth stop on the 1996 Miller Lite/AVP Tour, which will travel to 24 cities and 17 states during the eight month season.
