KIRALY AND JOHNSON CLAIM FOURTH TITLE IN A ROW

DUO RED HOT AS THEY WIN $150,000 MILLER LITE OPEN AT MINNEAPOLIS

MINNEAPOLIS, MN (August 17, 1997) -- In a final that is sure to go down in AVP history as well as the best final on the 1997 Miller Lite/AVP Tour, Karch Kiraly and Adam Johnson won their fourth consecutive tournament title as they defeated Kent Steffes and Jose Loiola 14-12 in overtime to win the $150,000 Miller Lite Open at Minneapolis.

The win marks the third time Johnson has won the Miller Lite Open at Minneapolis title in as many tries. Kiraly and Johnson, who lost the winner's bracket final earlier in the day to Steffes and Loiola 13-11 in overtime, exacted revenge by taking the title. Their victory marks the sixth time the former partners have matched up, the second time in a Miller Lite/Lite AVP Tour final. Kiraly and Johnson defeated Steffes/Loiola to win the $100,000 Golden State Open at Sacramento earlier in the month.

"It feels great to have another victory under our belt," said Kiraly "This (playing Kent and Jose) is beginning to develop into a great rivalry."

Kiraly and Johnson defeated Mike Whitmarsh and Canyon Ceman 15-11 and 15-4 to get to the final. Whitmarsh and Ceman took home third place for the second time in as many weeks. Ian Clark and Troy Tanner placed fourth.

The Miller Lite/AVP Tour, and Kiraly and Johnson's winning streak, heads to Belmar, N.J. for the AVP Belmar Open next weekend, August 22-24. Tickets are available by calling Tele-Charge at (800) 432-7470. The Miller Lite/AVP Tour will wrap up its season at the Miller Lite/AVP Tour Championships, held at the Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL in two weeks.
