Subject: FIVB Men's Beach Volleyball - July 24 Final Media Release

Marseille, France (July 24, 1999) - Para Ferreira and Guilherme Marques are
two victories short of winning their second-straight FIVB Beach Volleyball
World Championship as the Brazilians advanced to the semi-finals of the
$600,000 event here Saturday (July 24) along with other teams from Spain,
Brazil and the Switzerland.

Seeded third in the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, Para and
Guilherme defeated their Brazilian rivals Emanuel Scheffer and Jose Loiola
15-9 in 55 minutes Saturday morning to advance to Sunday's mid-day semi-final
match against sixth-seeded Martin and Paul Laciga of Switzerland.

Para, who won the 1997 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship Gold Medal in
Los Angeles with Guilherme, was "extremely pleased" with his team's play
Saturday. "We controlled the match from the start," said Para. "This is a
very important tournament for all the players. It's the points, it's the
money, and more importantly, its the World Championships. We know everyone
is shooting for us. We have to play our best to win."

Eighth-seeded Javier Bosma and Fabio Diez of Spain scored the last seven
points of the match to score a 16-14 upset win over Kiraly and Johnson to
join Para and Guilherme as the only unbeaten teams in the FIVB Beach
Volleyball World Championships with 4-0 match marks. The Spaniards face
Emanuel and Loiola in Sunday's first-semi-final match.

"This is our biggest win," said Bosma after the match as the Spaniards
avenged a 15-10 loss to Kiraly and Johnson in April's Mexico event. "We just
didn't give up. We played hard throughout the match and felt confident that
we could win today against a very good team. The Americans are great players
and make very few mistakes. We just made some key plays at the end."

Emanuel and Loiola, who had defeated Para and Guilherme in the last two
finals at FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events in Norway and Italy by the
identical scores of 15-13, rebounded from their morning defeat to advance to
the semi-finals with a 15-11 with over Lee Zahner and Julien Prosser of
Australia.

The Lacigas downed Kiraly and Johnson 17-15 to advance to the semi-finals.
It was the Laciga brothers third-straight elimination win Saturday in the
FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour's most prestigous event on the 1999 schedule
before a packed Plage du Prado Centre Court of 5,000 spectators with
near-perfect weather (28ēC).

The men's semi-finals will be played at 12 and 1 p.m. Sunday. The men's
Bronze Medal match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday with the winning team
earning $24,000 for third-place. The Gold Medal match will start at 5 p.m.
Sunday with the final two teams battling for the $60,000 first-place prize.
