Gold Medal For Emanuel/Loiola; Lacigas Snare Silver;
Dethorned Para/Guilherme Net FIVB Beach Volleyball
World Championship Bronze

Marseille, France (July 25, 1999) - Emanuel Scheffer and Jose Loiola of
Brazil broke open a tight match by scoring the last six points enroute to a
15-8 win over Martin and Paul Laciga of Switzerland in the Gold Medal match
of the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships here Sunday (July 25).

The 50-minute win netted the second-seeded Emanuel and Loiola their biggest
paycheck ever as the Brazilians shared $60,000 for their third-straight win
on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour after claiming wins the last two
weeks in Norway and Italy. The Lacigas will also cash their biggest paycheck
with $39,000 for the Silver Medal.

"This is great," Loiola said after the match. "Jose and I were really focused
and were able to handle their service game. The Swiss are a big and strong
team. They just keep coming at you throughout a match. I think our
conditioning paid off in the end.,"

Emanuel credited their coach (Jim Menges) for the team's success. "I am
dedicating this win to Jim," said Emanuel. "He has helped us become a very
consistent team. He's a beach legend that knows the sport. We have to play
the matches, but he prepares us both physically and mentally."

Competing in their 18th FIVB event together with eight Gold Medals in 11
title match appearances together, Emanuel and Loiola have now posted a 43-8
match mark this season with $195,500 in combined earnings. Individually,
Emanuel has a record 23 FIVB titles while Loiola was winning his eighth
international Gold Medal.

Brazil, which has now won 55 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour events in the
12-year history of the circuit, has now been represented in 24-straight
international championship matches. The last time the South Americans did
not reach the finals was September 7, 1997 in Tenerife, Canary Islands.
Brazil also has had a team in a FIVB "final four" in each of the last 39
international events since being denied a semi-final berth in the 1996
Portugal event..

The Laciga brothers were playing in their 53rd FIVB Beach Volleyball World
Tour event together with 12 "final four" finishes, including a 1998 title in
Argentina. The Lacigas have now advanced to a FIVB title match for the
second-time this season after placing second earlier this month in Germany.

Sunday's final was the Laciga's fifth FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Gold
Medal match overall as the pair also won a Czech Republic challenger event in
1997. The Lacigas have now posted a 31-17 match mark this season while
combining to earn $104,000

The sixth-seeded Lacigas ended the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship
title reign of Para Ferreira and Guilherme Marques earlier Sunday by
defeating the third-seeded Brazilians 15-11. Emanuel and Loiola defeated
eighth-seeded Javier Bosma and Fabio Diez of Spain 15-11 in Sunday's second
semi-final match of the $600,000 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships.

Para and Guilhemre were seeking their second-straight FIVB Beach Volleyball
World Championship after capturing the title in 1997 in Los Angeles. The win
by the Lacigas was only the fourth in 18 meetings with Para and Guilherme
since 1996.

The dethroned champions won the Bronze Medal match 15-7 Sunday over Bosma and
Diez. Para and Guilherme shared the $24,000 third-place purse while Bosma
and Diez split $18,000 for their biggest FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour
purse.

The FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships were played before an estimated
70,000 spectators over a seven-day period. The most prestigous event on the
1999 schedule on the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour outside of the Olympic
Games, Sunday's final matches were played before a packed Plage du Prado
Centre Court of 5,000 spectators with near-perfect weather (28ēC).

The women's FIVB Beach Volleyball World Champions were crowned Saturday as
top-seeded Adriana Behar and Shelda Bede of Brazil netted the Gold Medal and
the $60,000 first-place purse by defeating Annett Buckner Davis and Jenny
Johnson Jordan 15-11 in the title match.
