Yestarday, (Thursday), in the first day of the Main Draw, the Brazilians Loiola/Emanuel and Guilherme/Par á, first and second in the ranking, respectively, and the Swiss Martin an d Paul Laciga, third, won their games, keeping good chances in the tournament fo r reaching the top ranking. Today (Friday), are scheduled 18 games, as of 9 am, with free entrances, which will ended the first part of this event and will apo int the semifinalist teams.

The opening of this tournament, in Vitoria, couldn't be better. In a shine and bright day, with the temperture reaching 37 degrees celsius, the 32 tea ms of 15 countries showed us great performances in Camburi Beach's sands. Although na eastern breeze was cooling, the strong heat made the players suffer in the sands. Despite of being a Thursday, lots of people were in the arena to watc h the games, mainly the Brazilian teams.

Emanuel and Loiola have done little efforts in the first part of this eve nt. In the first match, they beat Perez and Lopes, from Cuba, by 15/3. In the se cond match, they defeated the Argentinians Depiaggio and Guemberena by 15/6. &qu ot; We had concentrated and accurated performances. This is very important in a high level match" , said Loiola. Their first opponents on Friday will be t he team Laciga/Laciga, in a very important match for the Swiss. The Swiss played hard matches. They beat the Americans Smith and Heidger in the first match by 1 5/11, reapeting the same score against the Brazilians Anjinho and Fred.

Guilherme and Pará had to make more efforts than the other Brazili an teams. In the first match they defeated the Mexicans Sotelo and Ibarra by 15/ 7 in almost one hour. In the second and most difficult match of the day, they de feated Kvalheim/Maaseide, from Norway, by 15/13. Their first challenger of this day is the Canadian team, Leinemann/Holden.

Happyness to some of them, and sadness for the other. Among 32 teams, 16 have already said " goodbye" to the competition. The American Sinjin Smith is one of them. Considered the " King of the Rio", with 5 titles in that city, this is the first time he is playing with his new partner, Heidger , in one tournament of the FIVB World Tour. They have lost their two first games , against Laciga/Laciga(SWI) and Blanton/Fonoimoana(USA).

The last stage of the FIBV/World Tour, Vitória leg, has been organ ized and promoted by Koch Tavares, with the supervision of International Volley- Ball Federation. The sponsors are Banco do Brasil, Olympikus, MasterCard and Con sul with support of the Vitoria City Hall.
