Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF)

HISTORY

Established in 1992, The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation unites the Pacific-10, Big West and Western Athletic conferences as a governing body overseeing several intercollegiate sports. The formation of the MPSF occurred with three objectives in mind: to enhance competition among the institutions within the MPSF, to contain costs and finally, to ensure the survival of the sports sponsored by the MPSF.

Currently the MPSF sponsors seven sports. The three conferences split up the responsibility of administering each sport, with the Pac-10 overseeing men's soccer and women's water polo, the Big West overseeing men's and women's indoor track and field and the Western Athletic Conference handling men's gymnastics and men's water polo.

All sports but women's water polo compete in an NCAA Division I Championship, and the MPSF captured three NCAA titles in its first year (1992-93). Stanford in men's gymnastics, UCLA in men's volleyball and California in water polo.
