PARK UNIVERSITY WINS BID TO HOST MEN'S VOLLEYBALL NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
PARKVILLE, MO-Park University has been selected to host the second annual NAIA/SSI National Invitational Tournament for men's volleyball. The six-team tournament will be held April 14-15, 2000, at Penn Valley Community College in Kansas City, Mo. Sports Systems International, Zinpro Corporation, and Tachikara USA are sponsoring the tournament.
Because the host institution earns an automatic bid to the tournament, Park University has already solidified one of the six bids available. The remaining five qualifiers will include the MIVA-NAIA Conference tournament champion, the West Coast qualifying tournament champion, and three at-large teams. The tournament format will feature two pools of three teams each that will compete in round robin play on Friday, April 14. The top two teams from each pool will advance to semifinal competition on Saturday, April 15, with the national championship match following the semifinal round.
On Thursday, April 13, a tournament honors banquet will celebrate the qualifiers and kick-off the tournament at the Kansas City Downtown Marriott. The NAIA/SSI National Invitational Tournament is endorsed by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), and USA Volleyball.
