Arizona Flames Feature Top Professionals
(San Diego) - The Arizona Flames of the National Volleyball Association, the premier women's indoor volleyball league, has completed its roster for the 1997 season. The Flames, coached by three-time Junior College Coach of the Year, Albert Gasparian , and his assistant coach, also assistant coach at Pima College, Heather Moore, will begin its inaugural season with a tremendous group of players. The Flames drafted Joy McKienzie for their first round pick. McKienzie was an NCAA All-American on the 1993 National Championship Team Long Beach State before turning pro. She has since played both in the NVA and on the 4-person pro beach tour. At 6' 3", second round pick Lauri Yust, an NCAA All-American from USC, will give the team its strength in the middle. The team also features several great local players including former All-Pac 10 players from the University of Arizona Barbara Bell and Charita Johnson.
