Colorado Thunder Pro Volleyball Team
Preparing for Second Season
Tryouts December 6
(Denver) - The '97 NVA Champions Colorado Thunder of the National
Volleyball Association (NVA), the five-year-old women's professional indoor
volleyball league, is assembling its team for the 1998 season. The Thunder will
compete against five other teams in the league; Nebraska Tornados, Iowa Blizzar
d, St. Louis Spirits, and two new expansion teams Kansas City Lightning and
Wisconsin Fury.
The NVA's '98 season will begin February 7th and end with the NVA
Championship in May. The Thunder will play four home matches and four
away matches. Complete details regarding the '98 schedule will be released
at a later date.
The Thunder's new coaching staff this season will include two of Colorado's
top coaches. Head coach Jim Miret and assistant James Beasley are both very
successful head coaches of the nationally recognized Front Range Volleyball Club.
Miret's extensive volleyball experience also includes assistant coach of the
U.S. Boys Jr. National Team, volunteer assistant with the U.S. National Team
and former assistant at both Colorado University (1986-87) and Regis University
(1985-86).
Beasley is currently the assistant coach at Colorado Christian University and a
volunteer assistant with the U.S. National Team.
The NVA will again feature many of the best players in volleyball including
former and future USA National Team players, former collegiate All-Americans
and many local stars. Tryouts for the Colorado Thunder team will be December 6
at the Kent Denver School. Players interested must contact General Manager Phil
