The 2012 Summer Olympic Games, officially known as the Games of the XXX Olympiad, is due to be held in London from 27 July to 12 August 2012,

followed by the 2012 Paralympic Games from 29 August to 9 September

Athletes: 96 (48 men, 48 women; 24 teams in each event)

A total of 24 teams in the men's and women's edition will compete for the gold medal in a competition spanning 13 days from July 28-August 9.

Beach volleyball was introduced to the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996. It is one of the most popular events on the calendar, boasting full houses.

At Beijing in 2008, USA's Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser clinched men's gold by defeating Marcio Araujo and Fabio Luiz of Brazil while Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor made it a double for the US as they beat home duo Wang Jie and Tian Jia.

   Qualification Points are accumulated thru the FIVB Rome event, 12-17 June 2012.

The historic Earls Court in the west of London is set to host the London 2012 Olympic Games volleyball tournament.

A total of 12 teams in the men's and women's edition will compete for the gold medal in a competition spanning 16 days from July 28-August 12.

Volleyball was first introduced to the Olympics at the 1964 Games in Tokyo.

In Beijing Brazil's women claimed their first ever gold medal at the event with victory over USA in the final, while the American men reversed the result by beating the Brazilians in their final.
